Hill parking problem solved

Post: # 2973Post Sheriff

My problem is that I live on a hill and there is nowhere flat to park my camper. In the past there were alarming bucks and judders from the legs as I tried to level the camper off after demounting. Then I saw a post where someone suggested putting castors on the legs for manoeuvring a camper and it occurred to me, what if I put castors just on the front leg? Hey presto, problem solved, it levelled off without a squeak.

I'm fortunate the slope on drive here is not as great as yours but you must have had a good procedure worked out in the past,
looks really fiddly,

how did you manage?

I haven't found a good procedure until now. I tried parking it in a less steep place but that had a sideways slope as well as a fore and aft slope which made things even trickier. Now I just demount it on the slope, wind down the front legs until level, then take it down evenly all round. The wheels don't move very far but it's enough to release the strain. I'd like to make some trestle arrangement so I can take it off the legs altogether.

Ah, got it,
as for the trestles, an old workmate 'should still' go under the front (and folds away to store on wall hook) thats what I use and they're rated up 500K I think.

The rears I find are perfectly OK by themselves being short they don't suffer the same stress the tall fronts do,

I experienced this issue in Greece. At home the drive is level, but demounting the camper at our friends place in Greece which is on a slope the camper started 'walking' in a juddering gait downhill when the front legs flexed then repositioned!
A hasty reverse-under with the truck was needed and then found a more level spot.
The castors (braked I hope) will take that jerking movement out.

Some Americam truck camper sites recommend that campers are not stored long term on the legs alone as it stresses the mounting points in wind etc. my trolley fix helps with that - the legs only just graze the ground now to make sure it doesn't move when I climb inside (tyre compression)

Good quality home made sawhorse type things would be a good call or even a 'table' like structure to land the camper base on over winter with the legs just adding extra stability.

Feet off the ground and a new bike shed.

I think it was Sue Morris had a neat 'curtain' looking awning enclosed that area when camping on their NSR

Looks good, we have the curtain under the bed area, it came with the Nomad. The guy we bought from makes them, see nomadcamper.co.uk. he can make them up.

I'm very impressed with all the adaptations that are appearing, those curtains under the luton area were next on our list.
The curtains mentioned on our demountable unfortunately were bog standard beach windbreaks not special at all ,but
they were very useful to hide all the junk we stored under the camper!
