When buying any used camper we always recommend taking along a these are cheaply available from Ebay at £6 and simple to use and can save you a lot of money and act as a bargaining tool.




Try everything electrical you can, ask about heating and water systems, and decide if its been lucky enough to enjoy winter storage out of the elements or has been damaged in the past

Damp;
typically in the back wall, most usually found in the washroom, below entrance door, and inside rear inspection hatch
also known to have ill fitting or split water filler hoses out of sight beneath sink.

One of our members recently stripped his camper back to basics in order to seal it properly against damp











Electrical; couple of things, first is PCB might actually be shot on an older model requiring replacement, the other is a thermal trip switch likely keep popping out and as a result someone jammed/glued it closed causing it to melt.




Bodywork;


Legs (& motors);
Motors can get tired but can be reconditioned (so not a deal breaker)

1. Water ingress! Look inside front of Luton in storage lockers. In particular the corners.
According to Apollo, this area needs to be resealed every 2 years ????? ..........

Other ingress points are under the floor of the toilet area and under the fridge. Also, any ingress under windows - might discolour the plywood under seat cushions.

2. Rear door fitment. Not great quality door and they twist as when latched open the reversing light bends the door. Also the panels/trim inside the door frame work loose and need re-gluing.

3. Water heater. Leaks are common - look for water stains on plywood in cupboard.

4. Electrics. Loads of bodging seems to be common. Going through a process of using correct gauge wire for the main looms as the battery was relocated to under the table by the small window rather than the cupboard and wiring is too small.

5. Electric legs. Factory fit wiring is poor and fuses blow all the time. Might want to check operation.

My DIY abilities stop at wiring a plug But even i can see that isn't up to a very good standard.

I do realise that there is a wide choice of De-Mountables on offer, both new & second hand, but i do feel that even i could re-seal my unit better than that. And, Please tell me that someone didn't actually pay hard earned money for that repair?

This is not meant as a personal attack on Apollo, they are member's, and as just, can reply but as an advert for repair work, truly Shocking.
