I guess the mans arm is inside a frame attached to the 'shovel'
but how does his body get supported

Very well designed and skillfully executed.

You can see the rod that straps to his arm attached to the fake shovel handle when it is leaning on the wall. When he climbs up the ladder he reaches into his jacket and slides the end of that rod into a harness (which we don't see him put on) - it supports his weight but allows him to swivel.
