Well not exactly new , but returning after a few months being too busy with family etc. and what is more we no longer have a demountable, but still think they are fascinating and love to see them around. We did own one for 5 yrs so still like to catch up on the latest chat. I could not log back in on the old site so have probably used a different username. It's very much a blokes site so I'm doing my bit for the girls !

Well, they were even rarer then and it was only because Nolan was located in south wales that I managed to get one , it was very daunting bringing that home on the first day, I had rung him to ask should we take the liner out before picking it up, he said no don't bother so off we went. When we arrived he said shame you left the liner in ! Anyway he fitted the chains for us and put great big chunks of wood under the camper to raise it up a bit, it was a very wobbly ride home which made us think we had made a bad mistake. But Doug had the same thought as many of you and cut a piece of ply to put under it and added a bit of carpet and hey presto, what a difference .
Anyway what I would like to know is, do any of the wives/girlfriends/daughters get to actually do any of the hitching up ? I couldn't really reach to do the front turnbuckles through the hatch , maybe it's just me being short.

Sue, those front turnbuckles are indeed a fiddle on NSR, and ultimately I thought up a better method using the leg mounting pads on camper and a cargo strap on each side accessible from the outside

Yes, we did see your idea with the cargo straps and I'm sure if we'd have kept the camper it would have been something we may have tried. It seems that whatever we own we all want to alter things that don't quite work for us . Anyway we have moved to the less interesting form of motoring and bought a coachbuilt motorhome which really is about the only thing we hadn't tried so it had to be done ! At least I can just drive off in it if I want to. Already managed a few outings to st.davids and Gower etc. still getting used to it (and the waving that happens quite frequently) .
Saw two demountables down in Port Eynon last month, think they were from Germany,the pop-up roof type.
Anyway we still miss the pick up,but it's amazing what we've managed to get in a Fiat Panda ! We still wave at demountables and forget that we're not actually in one , so if you see a pair of idiots waving from a swift suntor it's probably us.

Ah so that's what you bought, I did wonder what you went for.

We were discussing what people might naturally look around for as an upgrade from a tent, and thought either caravan
(as they'd already have a car or something anyway) though it might nowadays entail further training,

or a small motorhome like a VW say or possibly one like yours

So many things influence choices, this one is made to give us the options of taking one or two of our grandchildren away occasionally, since we retired early there has been a family explosion currently at no. 5 . so this gives us more circulation space inside , we may regret it as only one night with the kids on board= 3 nights recovery time
BTW before we made the final decision we took a Chinese great wall truck for a test drive as they were advertising ex demo models , if we could have got one for under 10k it may have been a different story, but the only one left worked out at 16k and had over 40,000 on the clock which didn't make financial sense to us. It drove really well (we thought so compared to our navara ).
A comfy bed is vital, can't be doing with those fold out things in the vw campers .

Interesting those Great wall cars, personally I'm a fan but some of our die-hards here won't give them garage space and go out of their way to bad mouth them
