Also it would be good to wire up a solar panel on the roof. any ideas?

Ideally a 12V panel on roof between 80-150W (depending on space) and you should have plenty,
take the twin core cable and pass it through a gland in roof probably beneath the panel for neatness,
into camper to a small controller panel fixed on a wall somewhere,
then cables out of that and onto your battery terminals
Panel in summer sunshine will keep battery topped up as a reservoir to charge phones, run small TV, power water pump and run LED lighting though not all at same time so judge how its doing by battery gauge
controller will tell you power being collected from panel and show it charging battery and probably give you a Voltage of that battery if you don't already have a gauge installed
