Hello from Gloucestershire
Hello from Gloucestershire
Hi there completed a self build on the back of a Ford Ranger. Made of bonded plywood. Nice and waterproof with an elevated roof. Full gas blown heating, water tank,2 batteries 12v lighting, kitchen/dinette, pull out side awnings and sleeps 3. Painted NATO green to blend.
Couple of UK and European tours and appears to work OK. Got a few bedding in issues if anyone can assist. In order to cut down on weight I would like to replace my weighty elevating wood roof with either a fibreglass or cloth sided pop up. One of my wind up support legs has failed with a stripped thread. Any ideas as to where I can go to find good replacements?
All the best

Re: Hello from Gloucestershire
So, welcome Trog we'd love to see some pictures of your camper,we have a couple of self-builds on here as more people go down that route of course.
if you send me a picture or Two I'll post them up here, have you got one showing the legs and their construction?
options would be repair or replace I'd guess, off-the-shelf new maybe available from our very own Gary Warr at SBS Dorset, failing that Mike has been looking at getting his own refurbed so thats a possible too

Hi Trog and welcome. Yeah be good to see some pics please. If you've got photos of the build in progress maybe you could put up a thread in the Self-build & Projects bit of the forum? I'm trying, but failing, to keep the weight of my elevating roof down so I'd be interested to see how you sort that out.

Howdy Trog, i'm new to this malarky myself, so unable to help with your weight issues, but hi anyway.
Re: Hello from Gloucestershire
Well the leg at least looks easy enough to replace,

I did look into ordering some in long lengths of an Italian manufacturer,
these available in UK are mostly aimed at either agricultural or small trailer use, but you can always add a sleeve with foot on it and pins like a Bimobil system
