What polish to use?

Post: # 23161Post wonkywheel

Hi,
As my build moves slowly on I am at a point where the protective film on the fiberglass sheet has to come off. It is beautifully clean and brilliant white. Is there anything I can use to help protect it and keep looking good? like Autoglym?

Is there a particular polish that you would recommend?

Thanks,
Mark

As I thought then Mark, they are none of them keen on polishing stuff in fact.

Rightly or wrongly, each Spring i T-cut & wax polish the whole exterior of my De-mountable. It always looks better & the rainwater beads off it. I have no idea what you're supposed to use/do?

They do say that old-fashioned hard wax and lots of elbow grease is the best - but on a big camper body, it takes aaaaages!

I like Mer Ultimate Shine Polish. You can sometimes find this in Halfords, or (oddly) The Range. It leaves a good shine, leaves water beading and running off readily, and goes on relatively quickly and easily.

Quick tip - apply it with a damp cloth or to bodywork still wet from washing, and it goes on really easily. Then wait until it dries to a swirly haze, and polish it off with a dry microfibre cloth (i.e., a fluffy towel) or polisher.

You can also use it as a very, very mild cutting compound, so if you find a spot where a small scratch or stain needs a little cutting, you can just 'apply' it a bit harder to that spot.

I have no shares in Mer, I'm merely a satisfied customer. And 500mls lasts for years (as long as you don't knock the bottle over...)

Thanks,
Amanda, I have been trawling some boating forums as they tend to polish each year, but I will look out for Mer. The tips on application are particularly useful as I tend not to polish the truck. I just have it spray polished after the car wash. I just have to wait until I have stuck some decal/graphics on as I need to do that or the polish should stop them from sticking.

Hi Amanda

I finally managed to track down a solitary bottle in a local Range store.

Hoping to give it a go soon & remembering your application tips.

I had a spare hour free over the weekend and decided to give the new polish a go.

Well, three hours later and i have polished the rear end around and including the stable door.

It was much easier to apply and less messy than T-cut. I'am really pleased with it.

Thanks for that suggestion.
