Hello. New to site. Making demountable
Hello. New to site. Making demountable
Hi. I own a small specialist camper conversion company ( I’m not advertising here )
I would like to firstly make my own demountable on a Ford Ranger. Then if successful I would like to offer this design for sale.
Do you think there is a market in the UK and is there any current legislation people know of that I would have to consider.

Good morning Paul & welcome,
There's definitely a market for units and for those travelling further abroad anything offering some luxuries and more especially light in design if that's what you had in mind.
We'd certainly be interested in seeing how your project goes on, in terms of legislation it's mostly about weight,
new customers are more aware of this than anything else these days and the savvy buy modern constructions in weight saving materials

Obviously have a scan through index page and probably the buyers guides which are a summary (litany) of problems people have experienced with manufactured campers they've bought over the years

Hi
Thanks for your reply
I’ve looked around at whys available and have considered the weight issues.
Going to make out of Grp sandwich with strengthening sections keep all components as light and low down as possible.
Quite like the Bimobil approach of removing the rear bed when fitting demountable

Hi Paul
Welcome to the Forum. Good luck with the venture, i'm looking forward to you posting some images of potential designs. I expect you can use your camper van conversion experience with the project.
With reference to the Bimobil set up, from my opinion, most people use the pick up as a work vehicle & use their De-mountable for short notice get away's. Having to remove the tub to access the chassis cab and then fit the De-mountable would certainly take the edge off a sudden weekend away.
But i do like the idea of being able to raise the whole rear wall to open up the camper.

Possibly one of the main selling points for Bimobil of course and it is a good one,
Bimobil don't currently have an agent in UK though, so potential buyers have to visit Germany instead

Did i miss something? I thought they had an agent, i'm sure they had a demonstrator at our Social. If they are no longer selling them i do wonder why, maybe the intial cost?

Re: Hello. New to site. Making demountable
Darren & Clare gave it up a couple of years ago, due to the poor exchange & no support from the factory. They were trying to rely on it as a full time income, which in my humble opinion doesn't exist in the UKmjb666 wrote:Did i miss something? Golum is attacking it in the best way by running his demountable sales business alongside his full time occupation & also selling in Euros at the current exchange rate.
If a demountable was available from the UK, then it would have to be of similar quality to the Tischer's & Skarosser's who have set the bench mark for reliability & build quality.

Thank you Zildjian & Peaky for the replies.
I must say it doesn't say much for UK built De-Mountable's.
I hope Paul is able to 'Buck' the trend with something new?
