Zildjian,

Rob spotted Beth and Max on eBay in July '14... we contacted the seller and called in to see him (and them) as we happened to be passing Southport en route to the Midlands that week. We agreed a price immediately and put down a deposit, the rest to be paid once an LPG conversion had been added to the 7.5litre V8 petrol engine of the F250 (so that I didn't weep every time I had to fill 'er up!).
Thus, I can drive a big block Ford pickup for the same economy figures as my brand-new Ford Transit Custom with the Euro Super-dooper engine... AND take it into low-emission zones with impunity.

Deristrictor - American campers do come up in the UK, but us buying this one was a total fluke - we were actually looking for a Skarosser, as we were so impressed by their amazing insulation and heating etc... but they were all waaaay more money than we had!
Beth was originally from Texas, and I hate to think of how much it cost the previous owners to import her and Max... but I'm glad they did!

Zildjian,

the LPG conversion is great, apart from the INCREDIBLY irritating aspect that it means we can't use the Eurotunnel.
Ferries are so expensive!

Our location: Hexham, Northumberland.

Nice dry environment (mostly) then, that explains the appearance,

Mind you a new member just the other week retrieved an 'Adventure' camper looked as though it had spent time in a cave and that cleaned up brilliantly with a lot of DIY effort,
I'll add you to map now thanks

Hi Sue, Welcome to the group! Nice rig there. I once ran an American RV and the fuel costs were outrageous - 6.4 mpg measured over a 1500 mile run. the LPG option should make that less painful though - I would consider an American truck in the future still - but only an LPG. I looked over a Ford Raptor a few months back and was impressed, I prefer LHD too.

The channel tunnel issue is a pain, but the ferry always feels like 'proper' going abroad so TBH I prefer that.

Not many American truck campers make it over here - the service personnel can bring a vehicle over here on the boat while stationed here, but most only bring the truck and leave the camper back at home in the states. There are two bases near us, Lakenheath and Mildenhall so we are ideally sites to find US vehicles, but they are very thin on the ground.

Hope you join us all in June so we can catch up.
