Another hello from Somerset :)

Hi,

Finally made it to the new forum after registering on the old one - thanks Zildjian for helping get us here :)

Recently picked up an Apollo demountable on eBay (it's the one on the eBay Finds thread - 2nd one down on the blue Hilux). We currently have it on our Mitsubishi L200. Needs a lot of TLC, the previous owner bought it as a project, stripped things down and didn't put them back together... Legs and motors seized - we have stripped and repaired the legs with new bearings and they're working a treat now. Water heater in bits. Now we've found wet rot in the back due to a scrape it's had which hasn't been protected from the weather very well. Hoping to have it in full working order by next season :)

Your first new member here I suppose we should offer a prize of some sort

Window stickers are still on drawing board, how about a pen?

Yes I've been reading about the window stickers, great idea.
Pens are good too :)

Sorry pens off! Thought it was soneone elses turns out it was actually mine.

We were discussing keyrings mugs & mousemats the other day and the sort of thing that appeals but then we got into this hosting thing, and it got shelved.
So who's idea a demountable and why?

Shame, I collect pens as part of my job...

The idea would be Ade's.
The reasons:
We love touring around but I gave up camping a few wet years ago.
We seem to collect vehicles - 7 so far in total belonging to various family members - so another one in the form of a motorhome means more tax and insurance and space on the drive.
Towing a caravan does not appeal to either of us and we don't have room for one either.
Ade saw a demountable on the M4 and the idea stuck. We have a truck, why not put it to another use? Plus the demountable (nicknamed 'CarryVan') provides the best of both worlds - use it on the truck for short term camping or off the truck if you're sticking around for a bit. And if the truck dies you don't have to replace the camper at the same time (or vice versa). Brilliant idea

An ethos echoed here then, your's is so similar to most here but I always ask just in case there's something new I hadn't considered myself.

The VW Amarok is a lovely looking thing isn't it, and having a bit more power is a bonus
most European trucks have a width between wheel arches of over 1000mm so easily big enough, as you say the extra vehicle width won't do any harm either
anyway take a look at the primer sticky on new owners for ideas about the airbags etc

Welcome aboard! You've arrived at a good time for us here, forum now has 'legs' And a few new members.
I'll try to come up with a sticker... Will start a new chat thread asking what format folk would like.

In the meantime..head over to chat and put up a pic of your demountable

Yeah I can login again

Hi and welcome,

We have similar rigs, I have a 2012 Apollo and an L200 K74 shape, just waiting for the camper to come back from being repaired. You've got a few goodies like the ladder and roof rack that I havn't got

Look in the Youtube vids, I think mine is the 1st one listed

Good luck with the repairs and happy camping

Rich
