Scenic route ideas from Cambridge to Scotland

Hi all,

We have now bought a Tischer Trail and fitted it to my Nissan Navara. I will update profile when I take a new pic.

Next week we are looking to travel from Cambridge up to Scotland and do some wild camping ( wild demountable ). Then trial back down and meet with everyone at the annual meeting in Settle. Has anyone got any suggestions on where to visit on the way up and also places to wild camp and good campsites in Scotland? We are a member of the Caravan & Motorhome club, so CL sites are good for us.

Thanks

Tim & Simone.

Hi Tim

Scotland's a big place - you can't do it all in one go. If you're heading towards the Cairngorms then a visit to the Edradour distillery I'd thoroughly recommend. Then from Braemar there's a road up the south side of the river Dee. There's pull offs from the road shielded by trees where you can stop the night, also the car park at the top where you can walk up into the hills.
We've also stayed on the south side of Loch Tumnel.
However it's not difficult to find places on the map and by just coming upon them.
Buy some Smidge.

Graham.

Thank you Graham for the advice. I looked the area you meant on google maps and it looks very nice. I a, guessing midges are a problem already.

I was also hoping more people would post about nice areas to visit near the A1 on the way up.

Thanks

Hi.
We've had some success with NomadGB. They show a lot of potential stopping places, although you need to look them up on google. A lot of them are just pull offs from a busy road and don't look much good unless you are desperate. Others are behind trees off quieter roads or in out of the way car parks. We've found that car parks to wooded areas are particularly good. A friend of ours recommended looking first for tyre marks which suggest that boy racers use it and then condoms which suggest another type of visitor (although that usually quietens down eventually).
Look forward to hearing how you get on. Will see you in June.
Graham.

Hi Tim

I get an awful lot of info from a Facebook Group called " Campervan Overnight Parking ". Really nice people on it and you can ask all the questions and someone will post relavant hints and tips. Hope that helps.

It was Great to see you & Simone again at the Red Rooster Festival, both me & Wendy loved the new Nissan/Tischer outfit, to the point of hints of jealousy.

Get some photo's up here on the Forum.

See you both at the end of June.
Mike & Wendy.

Hi Mike,

We will check out that Facebook group, thanks for that.

It was really nice to see you both again and to have had a chat. Did you enjoy Red Rooster? I thought the music was easy to listen to, but for me the best bit was just hanging out with the Mark & Lorraines friends and seeing yourselves.

We are really happy with the Navara & Tischer set up. I have wanted to use the Navara for ages and my mechanic said it would work well. The thing is, we do not even feel the Tischer on the back which I have to keep reminding myself not to put my foot down too much. You have a king cab Navara, so if you do get to change your demountable for a lighter one at some point, this would work well.

Looking forward to seeing you again in a couple of weeks.

Tim & Simone

In Scotland you'll be spoilt for choice!

I've stopped on Firemore beach near Poolewe quite a few times. There's an honesty box, I think it's around a fiver.

Street View shows quite a few caravans but whenever I've been there's only been one or two other people there.

Depending on how far you want to venture off the A1 I can also recommend Semer Water.

Thanks for the links Rob, the second one looks like it will work well for us on our way back down to Meet everyone at Settle. Nice find :D
