Insurance & where to get it

Postby Bookend » March 9th, 2015, 4:43 pm

Who do you guys use for insurance?

Campton won't just insure the demountable

My pickup is covered on my company policy so I only need cover for the camper

EDITED 2017; I called Campton this morning (28th Dec) I am covered by them on my truck and demountable he confirmed that demountable campers are covered separately and together he was concerned that people are being told that this is not the case.MIKE

I had the same problem, I ended up having to cancel my company insurance & getting a refund less admin charge. Then re-insuring the entire unit with Campton. It is now insured for 20k miles per year, split 12k for business & 8k private. The camper is then covered if it's on the truck or demounted on my driveway or on a site. It was pricey though, must be my postcode £850 fully comp :(

I'm hoping to find insurance just for the camper as my pickup is insured for free through our work policy.

You'll struggle, try the caravan & camping club.
Good luck, as I couldn't manage it :-(

Try Adrian flux. They did mine separately. The demountable cost a lot less than the truck although I don't remember the exact price

So a couple of times here its become a problem insuring a camper on a 'commercial' vehicle,
on a private pick-up its straightforward.

NFU have in the past offered cover although as their offers differ regionally it might need a few phone calls to track down an agent offering a policy.
Adrian Flux we've seen occasionally,

presumably meantime worst case I would imagine home cover could be increased to cover it on driveway, while you look around.

After many phone calls I have cover through the camping and caravan club club care policy.

They will only cover the demountable and not the pickup which is exactly what I wanted.

Everyone else would only cover both as a unit.

What did the C&CC charge for camper only if you dont mind me asking? They looked at me as if I was trying to insure the starship Enterprise when I enquired.
I still can only have private use on my Campton policy which is a real pain.

The camper was £413 which is equivalent to what we pay on our caravan. Our post code is not the best!!

It was a bit of a performance as the motorhome section said no they put me through to another section that said no. I told them to ask a supervisor who told the operator what to do and it's all sorted.

There cover is quite comprehensive and I think it's covered by the department that insure trailers and trailer tents.

Once I have the policy I'll post the details for reference.
