Already done it . I have about 100kg spare on the back axle for stuff.. But will still have to stay off the mud.

Well, that's got some discussion flowing. Along the lines of my initial enquiry, does anyone know the mileage you get out of the Cooper Discoverers? It would be nice to see if they had a similar wear rate to the AT's, as that would make them rather desirable.

100kg off of how much Jim? (maximum axle weight)

From memory Gary I think I have 100 left on max axle weight ( more on the front). I have not weighed it with the air bags fitted . The back end wasn't particularly saggy but do you think lifting it with the air bags will have a marginal positive effect on the rear axle . I have bought some scales to play around with loading options and could even take the rear legs off and store on the back seat if it was getting close .

I'm running BFG A/Ts in 265 75 x 16 size they have a very high load rating (cant remember what though) and last ages - mine have done over 30k on the Defender and they are less than half worn. They are awesome in the sand when aired down, reasonably good in mud, puncture resistant and quiet on the road. All in all good value for money and when I have to replace them in 20 - 30k time its highly likely that they will be replaced like-for-like.

Understood, but if we knew what your axle weight was in total we'd know what tyre ratings you needed.

If you're operating within limits it looks like you only need a 104 then. Must be a wide range of M&S tyres around in your size. We've had good results from Vredestein in the past, they used to make a nice commercial M&S range. Might be worth a look?

Vredestein do an M&S 195/80 R 14C 106/104 R. Would they not work with your rims?

Best wishes
