Help Needed !!!
Hi peeps,
we had a nightmare picking our Motorhome , now we have decided to down size to a Demountable, the choice seems even bigger !!
We have purchased a four door Ford Ranger as a base vehicle.
We will be using it for Winters away from France so a ' Pop Top ' would not work .
We would like to lay lengthways rather than sideways.
We have 10,000Euro's to spend.
Any suggestions ??????

Re: Help Needed !!!
Hi,
There are two types of "north/south" bed - the permanently fixed type and the slide out type that the old suntrekkers had. The former type are popular in the US. They mean you don't have to climb over each other to get to the toilet in the middle of the night. They also mean storage is often available either side of the bed. The latter, as used on the smaller and pop-top campers, tend to be less convenient because you cannot leave them permanently set-up and they intrude into the main living area of the camper.
For campers suitable for fitting to a double-cab Ranger you might find yourself quite limited in the number of "north/south" bed campers available - (I think the old Knaus camper was north/south). The overcab tends to be very long to accommodate this type of bed.
So I recommend you don't narrow your choices down based upon the bed orientation - if you find one then great, but if not the general layout of the camper and most importantly its condition and suitability for a double-cab truck must take precedence.
Steve.

Re: Help Needed !!!
He's right on the scarcity of east/west sleeping campers, typically here in UK if you insist on N/S that will leave only Northstar as an option,
Sometimes Ranger of course but both of which are quite scarce in sales.
Sleeping across is sometimes a minor inconvenience in terms of egress overnight but quite do-able all the same

The north/south option isn't necessarily more convenient either - it depends a great deal on the width of the camper and the available headroom above the bed. We slept n/s in our old Suntrekker, which as Steve mentioned above is a slide out bed, but the narrowness of the camper and the very limited headroom made it much more of a hassle and involved much more bodily contortion than the east/west bed in the SKarosser which we later bought, especially if one of us (usually me ) was trying to get out of the bed without disturbing the other.

Previous demountables: Island Plastics 'Suntrekker' on P100, S.Karosser 'EC8L' on Ranger supercab, self-built pop-top on Ranger double cab
Current demountables: Rhino 'Safari' hardside on Ranger double cab

Re: Help Needed !!!
Here is a conversion made by another member to his Skarosser, the headroom issue decided us as well not go ahead and do this conversion as there wouldn't be headroom to sit up in bed and drink a coffee
Re: Help Needed !!!
the other thing with conversions is its not full width at feet end, rather two drawers that pull out according to PBcamper thread
