nice neat install there Zildjian, pretty sure a camera doesn't count as mirror certainly not on our lorries anyway

Will plod will accept a camera as a substitute for a mirror?

Chris
Plod will laugh at that one, you have to have mirrors that allow you see unobstructed behind the rear corners of your rig. How else do you propose to change lanes in busy traffic?

I am not suggesting that I do away with the wing mirrors - that's not the plan.
I am assuming that with the rig mounted the INTERNAL rear view mirror is redundant.
How about a camera (with a suitably wide angle lens) mounted at the top rear of the rig adjusted such that the bottom of the rig can be seen at the bottom of the screen and the road behind in the rest of the screen? Screen to be mounted either on the sun visor or 'stuck' onto the windscreen.
My theory is that this would provide a good view of the road behind (possibly a better, unobstructed view than an internal rear view mirror) and it would work as a parking aid (assuming any rear parking sensors would be redundant because they may be shielded by the rig).

I know of one rig with a camera in this position together with another camera mounted on the rear number plate to assist when the truck bed is empty.

I placed my camera just above the rear number plate. I works when mounted and demounted to give me a clear view when reversing.

Don't quote me, but uk plod probably wouldn't bother about you using a camera over mirrors, and adding a camera is a good plan anyway as I have reversed into a sneaky post before, hidden behind the camper.

Euro-plod on the other hand seem to be enforcing every letter of the law at the moment, as it pays the wages in skint countries.

For instance, just leave a loaf of bread on the back seat of your car in Spain and you pay 60E for an unsecured load... And they wait outside supermarket car parks.

Next time in Spain ill 'pap' the police car at Carrefour. Maybe get the Portuguese rouse of lurking on roundabouts for hire cars and pulling the 'driver carrying passport' wallet lightener when we're there next January.

In Greece at the moment where most cars only have the wrecked stubs of mirrors, one headlight and they don't care even if you have four goats on the back seat.

Btw, last email to you was me. On my uk phone so shouldn't look 'funny'

Lloyd When I next hook it up I'll picture the image on the screen I see on sunvisor monitor, but essentially an area about 3' behind camper (from about head height)

I can always get into the camera and nudge it up or down a bit, but I was trying for reversing camera for parking as much as anything else, if it works as a pulling-out-to-overtake aid thats a bonus, failing that its continue with the
twitch-on-the-steering-wheel to see whats in the mirrors like usual :D
