for me it was probably Springsteen , yes into Floyd, Jethro Tull, free, bad company , but the boss's songs of chasing girls, working class america lit a beacon , I've always liked story tellers and Bruce is a good old fashion troubadour singing ballads and telling stories

The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey, that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again, I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside, darling, you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking that maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright
Oh, and that's alright with me

Thunder road........

Bruce springsteen is folk music, just some of its wrapped up in rock and roll, look at the vids of him at Barack Obama's first inauguration - playing this land is my land with Pete Seeger including all the verses the republicans forget

If you want folky but with attitude then try show of hands, just look for a very uncomfortable looking william (i own a mansion in wales) haig
