Re: oh no its happened again!!
The Defender doors rust partly due to the shape of the steel section which traps dirt and that blocks up the drainage holes. The dirt therefore remains damp and this exacerbates the problem. The chassis on the Defender is a massive box section - actually two C sections welded together with a lap joint. Mine gets a lot of abuse and I have had to weld on one small patch but he rest of it looks really solid.
I've put on two new front doors and I bought two 5 gallon tins waxoil to give all the steel bits a good going over a few years ago whist the steel was in decent order. Unfortunately this is one of the tasks I haven't got around to and the tins have yet to be opened!

Easy to work on though Martin, you just need a 13mm spanner & flat blade to open the tin with

Near side finished by body shop showing the ring bolt for fixing
[/url
That side all finished
[/url
Drivers side had to be welded as the fuel tank stops access to the other side of the chassis rail

Drivers side all done, pleased with the results looks a lot smarter now.

New tow hook taken from a scrap navara now on near side so I can fasten rear straps to this rather than the tow bar. Both sides now have hooks. They are at a better angle I feel.
