I had a good idea (yes really)

As a few of you have, I fitted a reversing camera a couple of years back,
Steve suggested elsewhere connecting it to come on with sidelights (genius actually)

but its little monitor kept getting knocked by my knee in the only space I had down alongside gearstick
so then I thought, why not mount that on or in the sunvisor out of the way,

it fits nice and flush, doesn't get in the way of the visor folding up, glued right onto the cardboard liner inside



a stanley knife to chop out a cassette-sized bit of the lining of sunvisor (on the side normally where you can tuck documents)
feed the tail of wires power/signal/spare out through the bracket it hangs from (nearest door)

there it joins an extension phono plug (maplins £5) and an extension to its power lead (DIY soldered up)
passes back down behind windscreen trim into dashboard and connects in usual way

Fitted in very neatly I thought,
obviously I glued it in upside down first and then tested !
(slightly easier to reinstall it rather than invert the camera)

I would ordinarily have soldered the phono extension up as well but it was cold outside

they are normally on a ball+socket mounting did you use any of that or chop it?

Yes came with a mounting bracket and that had that sort of ball pushed into a socket on rear of screen, I pulled that all off and discarded it,
and removing an oblong of the plastic skin of visor reveals; first a layer of sponge on corrugated card, when you chop those out neatly there's more than enough depth to set the monitor in without disturbing the velour? on the opposite side.

Neat. I must fit a reversing cam this year.
I was concerned that I already have too many 'auxiliary' screens dotted around the dash - satnav, dash am, phone, my gps speedo - looked like an Airbus driving at night.

Same thing actually, I hadn't noticed the number of 'things' building up until someone mentioned it.
this though puts it eye level and hides it too.
Hard-wired the ipod transmitter thing in as well and hid all that behind dash so all thats left is the bluetooth phone thing I inherited with vehicle.

you really should have a camera though and copy me on installation on camper in step light makes it so much easier

That pic reminds me of another job.. A Fiamma handrail/door lock. I was looking at how to fit with steps in place... I can see it fits so another spring project rears its head.

I see you've fitted skateboard deck grip to the steps too. Good call unless you enjoy clearing step three to ground in one go!

No I spotted it for sale at our supplier where they had it for steps actually, so I bought more than enough also it works on the roof too for the odd occasion you need to get up and inspect/clean someting

Thats a tactile self adhesive used on metal staircases in factories etc etc
