How best to
Re: How best to
Soo, does " wind it up " actually mean wind up the camper or just the leg you happen to be in charge of !! Followed by I said "WIND IT UP" followed by "I am winding the ###### thing up !!! NOO UPP UPP , I AM ,NO I mean down ,What the leg or the camper ? THE LEG . well why didn't you say Leg then ? and if you shout one more time I will shove this handle where the sun doesn't shine xx That would be the start to the holiday till he bought a power driver and did the whole lot himself.
Re: How best to
Wouldn't that make putting up a tent a challenge though, all those tent pegs & mallets and stuff
Re: How best to
I've done the whole lot on my own from day one so there has been no stress or hassle. First couple of times mounting I did climb in and out of the cab quite a lot though.

Re: How best to
Anyone been 'guided' into a parking spot will be familiar with the well intentioned but utterly meaningless instructions
in increasing volume and urgency!!!
thats why its often easier if a more cautious approach is better, with more than a couple of stops to get out and check

Re: How best to
I certainly always set the camper up myself while Mrs Rubberrat walks the dog... But the only time we ever get close to a disagreement is when we add this contraption to the camper for long stays or as 'HQ' at festivals or events -The wonderfully named 'Safari Room'
Utter pain in the ass contraption with a ton of parts that seem to need holding in three places at once with two hands.

Re: How best to
See this is why I bought into these campers as I simply refuse to get into anything tent-like or self assembly.
Ours came with a sausage shaped tenty thing that apparently clipped on the back end of camper, and
offered 'extra useable space outside'
I looked it over in a vaguely cursory fashion before rolling it all up and throwing it firmly into a skip,
there's a roll out sunshade/awning purchased at great expense which deploys with minimal effort
& which preserves my goth-like skin pallour

Re: How best to
I agree... take as little as possible, and as light as possible.
...However, this huge circus tent came with the camper and cost someone else the best part of a grand. But on some occasions, it's quite useful. For instance, if we do this Overland Show thing I'll load it up as it is a really good dry space that won't wrap over the roof if a mouse farts.
I wouldn't take the thing overseas or for a weekend away though, strictly for shows and stuff... and it costs me nothing to keep in the store.
The becardiganed motorhome types love this kind of thing though, not only is their motorhome a moveable replica of their twee bungalow, this is exactly like their conservatory!
They can sit in there and scowl at us scruffy demountable owners with our dogs on a string and mis-matched chairs... then complain to the warden.

Re: How best to
CC lot seem drawn to anything labour intensive and pointless though
obviously hooking up an enormous drag and stoopid mirrors
and setting off with all the pomp and ceremony of an escorted wide load with frequent coffee and racial rant breaks by the roadside,
then there's the approved sites,
lined up militarily on a field, their windows flickering in the gloom with emmerdale on the freeview,

Re: How best to
Well I think we've come across the types you are referring to, but I hate to tell you we are equally capable of bringing out our mis matched and patched up chairs , our rusty bikes and general heaps of things which might be useful.Oh and no cardigans either or daily mails ( except ones others have left behind, to put on the floor for the mucky boots ).
One of those safari rooms came with our latest motorhome, it's in a massive bag like a dead body on the shed floor, don't think it will get used. I know a few people on here are members of the much slated CC , some have even owned up to it.
