I didn't know that Romahome had launched a new model De-mountable in 2015. I know it's not everyone's 'cup of tea' and at a launch price then of £27,995 on the road, it's not cheap but it must have appealed to at least one buyer as there was one for sale on E-bay but not sure the exact date? ( SOLD - 05/08/17 )

I did find this bit about the launch

Note: put up for general information's sake, might even get a couple of comment's.

Very interesting Mike. Thanks for finding it. They managed to sneak that onto the market without much fanfare didn't they? :? It's a very neat little box and well thought out with that kitchen (and therefore much of the weight) right across the front. Not sure about the base vehicle though - not a lot of payload or power to play with with that on the back!

I found this short video of the interior at the NEC launch. For what it's worth, i'm very impressed with the great use of such a small space.

I'm a bit surprised that it doesn't have a shower/toilet cubical, only space for a porta potti,....for a camper of that size.

Hi Steve,

I agree, Romahome do seem to able to squeeze an awful lot in & do have shower/loo set up's in some of their campers, as do Nu-Venture.

Mind you, as Martin pointed out, not a lot of spare payload to play with & the DFSK Big Cab isn't going to be tearing up the tarmac either!

I've found this ' What van? ' write up.

Good find Mike, interesting read, I'm surprised that the payload isn't higher than that and the power plant certainly seems a bit weak. :o

I put it up as Romahome were one of the first in the early days of De-mountable's, i'm sure Martin Wiltshire can comment further.

I know it's not what any members of the DCG Forum/Facebook group own, apart from Poppi i believe but nevertheless, i find certain aspects of this particular style of De-mountable quite appealing. Small, easy to park, cheap to run, great for a sneaky couple of nights away exploring single lane back roads, a cheeky bit of stealth camping but not for longer long term touring, no fixed bed for starters!

The biggest drawback from my side is the initial cost + the limitations of use make them a non-starter but i can see the appeal.

And, the DCG, is for all De-mountables.

I have had a look at a similar sized van but think on closer inspection that it has a slightly longer wheelbase and a better payload and it's not de-mountable.

Oh, it is also £38k. That's a Bonkers amount of money.

This is the bathroom that i feel it's missing.

From page 663 on the sales thread. I'm not sure how to quote across from another thread?

Unlike many other members of this group, we do at present have a van this size (slightly smaller think), the original Romahome demountable built in the 1980s. It is on a 2001 Daihatsu HiJet - the same size engine as the DFSK - 1300cc.
Below is what I wrote about the DFSK on the for sale thread.
"I do not think many of these were built Romahome were hoping to return to demountables capitalising on the success of their R20 camper van - one of the problems is the on/off importing of the DFSK also known as DFM pickups. They appear to be either a built under licence Suzuki Carry with some modification (larger cab) or a knock-off!"
I cannot comment on the DFSK driving etc - handling should be better than the HiJet's as it is a longer wheelbase and the front wheels are further forward - so straight line stability should be improved! he HiJet top speed can, on the level be 70mph - even fully loaded she has yet to meet a mountain in Britain that can stop her (we have been over the 3 highest pieces of public road in Britain!
In these small campers accommodation is cramped. We 2 old wrinklies and a large dog spent nearly a month away last summer, and survived without a row, (something we rarely achieve at home for 3 weeks). Of course the most important thing is to have a routine and avoid getting in each others way. In the morning the first up once dressed makes a cuppa, then takes the dog for a short walk while the other gets up and dressed. 2 getting up and dressing is impossible and would lead to arguments in no time! hen once both are up and dressed I would walk the hound while Sandra put away the bedding and made breakfast. Washing-up one did the other stays out of the way. In that month we wild camped most of the time.
Is it too small? I think so and therefore we are intending to go up a size ideally to a Sun Trekker 2 as we do like the Island Plastics / Romahome build quality!
