Apparently the 'hard-core' magneteers© wear waterproof trousers but I'll see how it goes first
Re: This Winter I shall mostly be (Magnet fishing)
well be sure the magnet is tied on the string properly
Re: This Winter I shall mostly be (Magnet fishing)
Well I've been watching a few videos on this now and the plan is to retrieve possibly a sub-machine gun or iphone on day one so thats all good, but I think I could ask you boaty types a question;
IF the magnet gets caught in something substantial on sea bed, whats the best course of action
1;wiggle it about till it comes loose/cord snaps
2;get someone to wade in after after it
3;drop cord in after it cover up all traces that I ever had a go at venture
(this option has served me pretty well on all last hobbies frankly)

We do have a magnet on the boat, the theory is that if you drop something overboard (usually tools or vital bolts) you can retrieve it. Success rate is approximately 10%. Even in shallow water. Small things tend to disappear down crevices, or travel some distance away from where you dropped them. Never dropped a sub machine gun, so not sure how that would work. Maybe the magnet is more for identifying where the large things are and then retrieving by wading. The magnets are very strong; come to think of it, I don't think I've ever pulled it off something just using the cord, probably quite.difficult.
Scrub that
OK spent a pointless morning dredging what should have been an excellent site for interesting items
Nothing
Thats ten minutes I don't expect to see again, new hobby needed
