So this is my plan - excuse my poor drawing.

I will ask NJ to build me a canopy with a big hole in the roof then cannibalise the above roof tent to allow full standing height when open. A new cover will me made to go over the roof tent and be held down on the sides of the canopy from vinyl type material and bungey cord. So dust and water proof when on the move.

Camper furniture will be removable modular plywood kit allowing full use of load bed for work etc when not camping. Using these guys as inspiration/asking them to make it! http://www.amdro.co.uk

Not strictly a demountable as I intend to leave the canopy on.

What do you think?

Quite like that,
so someone makes you a slide-in camper without a roof (or at least a big hole in it,
onto which you fix the canopy/tent which folds out to N/S and then (I think) a fibreglass roof folds out o/s to cover tent when on road

yeah only i was going to use a soft cover. I had a James Baroud roof tent previously that had a plc/vinyl sort of cover that attached with bungee shock cord to little nobbles as below, I intend to make a deeper cover for the tent that will attach in the same way to the sides of the canopy.

see below is image of underside of James Baroud roof tent.

I tried the roof tent thing but in the UK you need somewhere to sit/eat/cook etc that is dry and wind proof. They would be ideal in Africa where you can sit out and be warm but when it is cold dark and wet and all you have is a bed it is not ideal.
Hence the redesign....

The 2m MyWay tent is massive so 2 people can sleep in just half of it allowing the other half to sit over the load bed which will contain seating (that will fold to be kids bed) and cooker fridge etc. MyWay tents also come with an awning that connects to the half that hangs of the truck allowing a private area here also.

Like this! Close to what I am aiming at, in looks at least.
