Re: Fitting a Suntrekker to a Mk 8 Hilux

Oh, and: I had to remove the old 'Suntrekker' logos from the camper's sides to allow polishing and a small repair. They were coming to bits and looking scruffy anyway. I thought I might get new ones made up in the same design, but in a colour to match the new truck. Now, I seem to recall someone on ...

Re: Fitting a Suntrekker to a Mk 8 Hilux

That is a Great write up and with photo's makes a really interesting read even better. Thanks! Is the load bed on the newer truck just that bit longer as looking at it mounted on both it's now flush at the back on the blue one? Yes; it's about six inches longer, I think, and the bed is couple of in...

Re: Fitting a Suntrekker to a Mk 8 Hilux

You obviously like that Suntrekker as you've not changed it and on that new truck it looks about right, but what camper would choose instead given the option out of interest? I've looked at other demountables over the years, but seen no reason to change. Those parts of the Suntrekker that degrade a...

Fitting a Suntrekker to a Mk 8 Hilux

I've had my Suntrekker since (I think) 1995 or so, when I bought it from Balmer Lawn Garage near Lymington, a Toyota dealership. The owner had bought it new from Island Plastics, and used it once a year for a run down to the south of France on whatever Hilux he happened to have in stock at the time;...

Re: What are you up to?

Finishing up the last few days on a field project in Herefordshire. On Sunday, I'm going home, after five months away - yippee! I've not been living in the Suntrekker, but when living in rented houses, it's great to have life support on tap just outside. There's always something a rented house doesn...

Re: Upgrading to LED strip lights

Does you camper have a voltmeter on the wall somewhere Amanda? if it does take a look at it as you tune those Led's on and it will hardly budge now. i bet with the old lighting it would have dipped pretty sharply as even those little strip lights came on where as modern lighting hardly makes a dent...

Re: Replacement Suntrekker tap

That reminds me of the time... Clare and I were touring around Ireland in our Suntrekker, which was on a Ford P100 at the time. We were mostly lucky with the weather, but there was a run of three or four wet days while we were in the mountains near Tralee. Cabin fever struck, and we set out for a wa...

Re: Upgrading to LED strip lights

I needed to do something with the lights in my Suntrekker a couple of years ago: the fluorescent tubes were going black at the ends and getting dimmer and dimmer. (The blackening is, I'm told, quite common as the tubes age and is made worse by running them at less than a healthy 12volts, which somet...

Re: Tailgate removal

[quote="zildjian" 8_9tPl8GI2E [/quote] I've been removing my trucks' tailgates for years in order to mount up my Suntrekker. On my first truck, a Ford P100, I devised something very similar to the springy pin in the video (the alternative would have been removing an access plate and unbolting one of...

Re: Spotted

I overtook a Ranger on an orangey/goldey double-cab Navara heading north on the M1 yesterday, towing a mobility scooter on a trailer (no photos - I was driving!).

I was the Suntrekker on the faded red Hilux.
