Really sorry to hear of your probs - but at least they were when you were on your way home! See, its not just Land Rovers that break down. Good European breakdown cover is well worth the expense even if you never actually need it.

Portugal is great as a destination isn't it?

First trip of 2015 for Mr and Mrs Clampit

930 miles and an average of 23mpg (seemed to be a headwind whichever way we went), 7 nights and many counties later we returned home to Poole. No campsite fees as we wildcamped in some lovely locations in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and The Peak District. http://s24.postimg.cc/j...

Re: Great Dorset steam fair

Despite it being "only just up the road" I went for the first time last year as a day visitor, and really enjoyed the day. Strangely the highlight for me wasn't the traction engines, the classic car show or the monster trucks it was.... The Sheep Show! For the wife it was all the trade and tat stand...

If you have a Garmin GPS I can send you loads of coordinates to load up for many routes both off and on road. There's some awesome trails to drive from the NE of the country right down to the Algarve. PM me.

Re: K33F's self_build

Keith There is a superb wild camp just above the Westbury White Horse that we've used a few times now. Its the car park where the hang gliders and paragliders park and its awesome watching them doing their stuff. Some of the participants think that a demountable would be ideal for their sport. There...

Re: Aldi specials

Not Aldi but I bought one of these as my GPS. It's also a TV and works as a screen for my reversing camera so that the image comes on with the reversing lights - very useful when parking the rig! https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/on-the-road/in-car-sat-navs/previous-models/nuvi-2585tv/prod94368.html M...

I used one of these bedded on Sikaflex to bring my solar panel cables through the roof - it hasn't leaked in 4 years.

Re: plywood base

I did on my L200/Apollo rig as I had clearance issues over the cab. Don't on the Defender/Northstar as:

1, there was more clearance over the cab,
2, chassis flexes less and
3, at 3.05m its high enough already!

Re: Is it hassle

With regard to movement of the unit. Don't know about the Hilux but my L200 loadbed was mounted on rubber washers which I changed for steel. The chassis did flex quite a bit on the L200 which resulted in the overcab contacting the roof if I hit a speed-bump too fast! No such problem with my current ...

Re: new member in cornwall

Welcome to the goup. I use 265 75 16 BFG AT's on my truck and think they are a really good balance between on-road and off-road performance. They're reasonable for mpg and longevity too. A friend drove to Australia a couple of years ago on the same type and didn't have one puncture (in five years I ...
