Are you doing all your welding outside ? Wind blowing away the gas can make quite a difference . I would weld what you can in the garage ( or kitchen ) or use some sort of windbreak . It looks like more heat is required . It would be good to get a pretty flush weld , but you are making good progress .

I think it depends on how much you get away . We tour a lot and never stay in the same place 2 nights so we never dismount, If you go away for 2 or 3 weeks a year and stay on the same camp site I would get a caravan. I am very pleased with my Ranger Suntrekker combination . I have the Supercab or Extracab
model which has 2 small seats in the back .I have heard that most trucks are too wide unless you modify the front legs .
