Yup - that worked - hardtop now stored in a garage. Off to the weighbridge to get an empty weight and see what's on the rear axle prior to getting our Italian Tischer.
Thanks for the advice everyone.

Re: Another new member
We now have an Amarok and I've just got back from Italy where I bought a Tischer 230. We'll drive out soon to collect it and then intend getting.......lost in the wilds.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped with our queries.
I'll get some pictures posted when we get back from Italy.

Re: Need to lose some weight...
You could try getting the load rating raised. This web site might be a good place to start:

I'm aware of one demountable owner who has done this on an Amarok through this company.

Re: Towing mirrors
I am not suggesting that I do away with the wing mirrors - that's not the plan. I am assuming that with the rig mounted the INTERNAL rear view mirror is redundant. How about a camera (with a suitably wide angle lens) mounted at the top rear of the rig adjusted such that the bottom of the rig can be ...

Anyone got a rear view camera? Any good? Wired or wireless?
Will plod will accept a camera as a substitute for a mirror?

Re: Another new member
Hi Fiona, We will certainly drop by if we're passing - very much like to have a look. We're still in the 'research' stage and need to look at anything and everything. Which model (Start, Trend or High) Amarok do you have? Manual or Auto? Any problems? How is your Apollo attached? Apart from the fram...

Hi, Chris here from near Carmarthen. No truck and no demountable - yet! We're doing our research. Already discovered Golum is nearby and talking to him. We're interested in the Amarok - like to discuss details with you, FinAde, about your rig and anyone else who has one. I've been looking through al...
