I tried the roof tent thing but in the UK you need somewhere to sit/eat/cook etc that is dry and wind proof. They would be ideal in Africa where you can sit out and be warm but when it is cold dark and wet and all you have is a bed it is not ideal. Hence the redesign.... The 2m MyWay tent is massive...

yeah only i was going to use a soft cover. I had a James Baroud roof tent previously that had a plc/vinyl sort of cover that attached with bungee shock cord to little nobbles as below, I intend to make a deeper cover for the tent that will attach in the same way to the sides of the canopy. see below...

maybe aluminium roof maybe GRP roof as it will cost significantly less than the whole body in GRP.

I like GRP as it won't rot and if rain sits under the body on the load bed it won't soak up into it.
