you can buy spares from Happijac in USA but of course you have to pay shipping and duty. having said that its a small part so shouldnt cost too much to ship. good luck

Hi I use a bed rug which works well with camper and when needed to go to tip etc.
It just brushes off and rinsed out with water.

The ranger tailgate is just 4 bolts on the hinges. Looks like you have a mk3?. It's very easy. It is quite heavy but I just rest it on an old stool which happens to be right height. The problem I had with mine was with the threaded shaft wearing out the nut in the leg as in the pic above. You could pull the shaft by about a thread or two in and out. Most of the parts are available from happijack but not that!!!, they were very helpful in email correspondence. The main issue is ...

I think the thing is that the bars normally have weight pushing down not pulling up. When I did that on another canopy I tied rope round the window openings difficult to balance but it worked ok. The key as you say is not to let it hang too long.
